Some 50 or 60,000 years ago, Septarians were formed by wet blobs or banks of mud drying and pulling apart in a network of irregular veins. The cracked mud was covered with several hundred feet of earth, and in the centuries that followed, minerals in water seeped down through the soil and deposited in the cracks. The mineralization is mostly yellow Calcite, brown Aragonite, and/or white Barite. Occasionally they will contain crystal pockets, which will usually enhance the specimen. These particular Septarians can be found in the surrounding hills of Orderville, Utah.
