Libyan Desert Tektite — 8.2 grams

Natural and genuine Libyan Desert Tektite, or “Desert Glass” found in Northern Africa.

This specimen measures about 1-1/4″ x 7/8″ x 1/2″ and weighs 8.2 grams.

This naturally occurring glass-like tektite is suspected to be of meteoric origin.  Scientists are in constant debate about its origin. It is transparent, having a light to medium yellow/gold color.  It shows ablation, although that may have occurred as the result of being sculpted by sand as opposed to flying through the atmosphere.  Either way, it is a unique specimen.
