Meteorites • Libyan Desert Glassy Tektite
Libyan Desert, Egypt
This naturally occuring glass-like tektite is suspected to be of meteoritic origin. Scientists are in constant debate about its origin. It is transparent, having a light to medium yellow/gold color. It shows ablation, although that may have occurred as the result of being sculpted by sand as opposed to flying through the atmosphere. Either way, it is a unique specimen.
